The Club for Growth has endorsed Sen. John Campbell to succeed Chris Cox in the 48th CD special election set for Oct. 4 (hat tip to OC Blog). The other major contenders are former Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer and Minuteman Movement founder Jim Gilchrist (an American Independent Party member), plus a slew of Democrats and unknown Reeps.
I was a consultant on Campbell's first Assembly campaign, and I can personally vouch that he is a conservative of the first-order -- a good, thoughtful and historically-astute man. I always felt he would ultimately win statewide office and possibly ascend to the governorship someday, but I suppose serving in the majority in the U.S. Congress is a rare opportunity (especially in OC).
